SCHOOL AWARDS
Presentation Day, held each year in the second last week of Term 4, provides an occasion for the celebration and recognition of achievement of students from Kindergarten to Year 6. These are in addition to the normal school merit awards.
Class Awards
Each class is allocated five awards. These are to recognise achievement in English, Maths, Creative Arts and two others decided on at the discretion of the class teacher. The two awards were presented from a range of categories including, Class Citizenship, Overall Achievement, Science and Technology, Academic Achievement, Most Improved, Attitude , Effort and Improvement.
Year 6 students were given awards for English, Maths, Creative Arts, HSIE, Science and Technology, Improvement in Literacy and Consistent Effort.
School Awards
These are presented to recognise a range of school achievement. Awards were given for :-
- Achievement and effort in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program.
- Citizenship for Junior and Senior students. These awards are from staff nomination and election and are supported by a written testimonial presented by the nominating staff member. Citizenship is judged on attitude, effort, role model behaviour and contribution to school life.
- School Service awards recognise the consistent contribution of students to school support activities such as flag raising and management of audio-visual equipment.
- The Darryl Mann Music Award is presented in memory of the past band director who inspired many students with a love of music. It was presented in 2008 to a band member for his competency in playing the Tenor Saxophone and his commitment and helpfulness to the band.
- The Jill Oakley Visual Arts Award, begun in 2008 is presented in memory of the wife of the current Principal. Jill Oakley was an artist and teacher. The award is presented to a student who has shown commitment, talent and joy in art.
- Dux of the School is presented to the highest achieving Year 6 student and is measured across a range of Key Learning Areas.
- Maths Olympiad is an external competition conducted in the school over a period of weeks and recognises a high level of numeracy competence and achievement.
Sports Awards
These are presented in the range of sports played in the PSSA competitions, at zone, district and state levels and at Carnivals. Sportsman, Sportswoman and Sportsperson of the year are judged on overall achievement in a range of sports.
